Hey there. Welcome back to Midlife and Glowing. I'm Alicia.
Nicole:and I'm Nicole. And today we're giving you quick, practical ways to feel better and glow a little brighter in midlife.
Alicia:In our main episode this week, we've talked all about gratitude. How it's one of the most powerful practices for midlife women backed by both science and personal experience. We dove into the ways gratitude supports your brain, your health, your hormones, your relationships, and even your longevity.
Nicole:But today we wanna zoom in on a different angle. Gratitude doesn't just help you feel better about the present. It's also an incredible tool for shaping your future. So we're talking about gratitude as a bridge into manifesting and connecting with your future self.
Alicia:I love this because when people hear the word manifesting, they either get really excited or they roll their eyes and think, okay, that's a little too woo woo for me. But the truth is, manifesting and gratitude are deeply connected. It doesn't have to be woo at all.
Nicole:Gratitude shifts your frequency. When you focus on what's already good, your brain starts to filter the world through that lens. This is thanks to a part of your brain called the reticular activating system. It's the filter that determines what you notice. If you're focused on gratitude, you're more likely to notice opportunities, people, and experiences that align with that energy.
Alicia:Right. And that's what people mean when they talk about the law of attraction. it's not magic, it's focus. What you pay attention to grows. So if you're constantly focused on stress or lack, your brain keeps scanning for more of the same. But if you're focused on gratitude, you prime your mind to look for more things to be grateful for and that changes what you attract and how you show up.
Nicole:And here's the cool part. Gratitude doesn't just change your mind, it changes your biology. We shared this in our main episode, but studies show gratitude activates the brain regions associated with dopamine and serotonin. It lowers cortisol and even improves sleep. So when you combine gratitude with intention, it's like you're stacking the deck in your favor. You're creating the mental, emotional, and physical state that makes manifesting possible.
Alicia:Okay, so let's bring this into practice. Let's spin this to practicing gratitude for your future self.
Nicole:So here's how it works. You imagine yourself a year from now, or maybe even five years from now, and you ask, what will she thank me for?
Alicia:This question is so powerful because it pulls you out of that autopilot mode instead of just reacting to the day in front of you, it makes you think bigger. What choices today will future me be grateful that I made?
Nicole:And it doesn't have to be these massive life overhauls. It can be simple things like drinking more water, saying no to something that drains you, adding one more protein rich meal to your day. Taking a five minute walk to reset, picking up a book instead of scrolling.
Alicia:Yes, and for me it's often style related. My future self is always grateful when I take 20 minutes to get dressed into something that feels good, throw on my makeup and do my hair because it changes my mood and my energy all day long.
Nicole:And I think about health. Future Me is always grateful when I strength train, when I prioritize protein, when I get enough sleep, because it's not just about that day, it's about building resilience and energy for the future so I can continue to do the things that I wanna do in my life for as long as possible.
Alicia:Yes, exactly. I love those two and I do also
Nicole:Yeah.
Alicia:those. So let's give our listeners a quick practice to try this week.
Nicole:This is super simple and it only takes a few minutes. Grab a journal, a note on your phone, or just think it through as you listen.
Alicia:Step one, write down three things you're grateful for right now. These can be big or small. Maybe it's your morning coffee, your health, your kids, or the fact that you got through a tough week.
Nicole:Step two, now write down three things you want to call into your life as if they've already happened. Use gratitude language. So instead of saying, I want more energy write, I'm so grateful for the energy I feel each morning. Instead of I wanna feel confident in my body, write i'm grateful for the strength and confidence I feel in my body every day. And writing them down. I actually just saw a post from Mel, Mel Robbins. She actually had some, a neuroscientist on her podcast and there is something important about actually physically writing it down. So I think that can be a really powerful tool. I mean, you know, at the time that you're doing it, if you don't have access to a pen and you wanna just put it in as a note in your phone, that's fine. But if you do have a pen and paper or a journal and you can write it down, there's something really helpful about that when it comes to manifesting.
Alicia:Step three. Close your eyes for 30 seconds and visualize your future self. See her smiling, grateful, and thanking you for the choices you're making today.
Nicole:This process is like creating a gratitude loop between your present and your future self.
Alicia:And what's beautiful is that it feels good in the moment, but it also sets your brain on the path to look for ways to make those future gratitudes real. So why does this work? Why is it so powerful to combine gratitude and future vision?
Nicole:Because gratitude is an amplifier. When you pair gratitude with what you want to create, you're training your brain to see it as already possible. That shifts you from doubt to belief, from hesitation to action.
Alicia:And belief is everything. Think about times when you doubted yourself, you probably held back, but when you believe you act differently. Gratitude gives you that belief boost.
Nicole:And from a midlife perspective, this is huge. So many women feel like their best years are behind them, but gratitude plus future vision flips that script. It reminds you that you can reinvent yourself at any age and stage.
Alicia:Absolutely, and your future self will always thank you for the things that support your health, your joy, your confidence, and your purpose.
Nicole:Okay, so here's your glow reflection for today. What's one thing my future self will thank me for?
Alicia:It might be something small like drinking more water or going to bed on time, or it might be something bigger like finally starting that project or making your health a priority.
Nicole:Whatever it is, write it down, hold it in your heart, and let gratitude be the energy that carries you forward.
Alicia:We hope this episode inspires you to see gratitude not just as a way to reflect on what you have now, but also as a way to shape what's ahead.
Nicole:Yes, because gratitude is a frequency, and when you live in that space, you're not just celebrating your life, you're actively creating the future you want.
Alicia:Thanks for spending a few minutes with us today. Until next time, keep glowing and keep giving your future self something to be grateful for.
