Alicia

Hey there. Welcome back to Midlife and Glowing. I'm Alicia.

Nicole

And I'm Nicole. And in our main episode this week we talked about finding calm in the chaos, how to slow down, set boundaries and reconnect with the real spirit of the holidays.

Alicia

But today we wanna go even deeper because sometimes even when you do slow down and set boundaries, you still end up feeling completely drained.

Nicole

Yes. And that's because during the holidays, it's not just your schedule that's overloaded, it's your energy. You're surrounded by people, emotions, noise expectations, lights, screens. It's constant stimulation.

Alicia

And if you're sensitive, empathic, or just someone who absorbs the moods of others. Hi us too. Then you probably notice that your energy feels all over the place this time of year.

Nicole

Yeah, so in this glow bite we're walking you through how to protect your peace and how to reset your energy when you start to feel drained. Think of this as your energetic toolkit for the holidays.

Alicia

All right, let's start with awareness. How do you even know your energy needs a reset?

Nicole

For me, I notice it first as irritability or brain fog, or just feeling off for no other reason.

Alicia

Yes. And for me, it's when I feel overstimulated, like my nervous system is buzzing and I just can't get calm no matter what I do and then I definitely crave quiet and alone time.

Nicole

Yeah, the same happens for me when I'm around a lot of people and that's your body's way of saying, Hey, you've picked up too much energy that's not yours.

Alicia

So if you're feeling exhausted after being around crowds, family gatherings, work events, or even just scrolling social media, that's a sign that your system needs an energetic reset.

Nicole

Now when we talk about energy, we don't just mean in a woo woo sense. There's actual physiology here. Your nervous system is constantly responding to the energy around you through tone, expression, posture, and even someone else's stress hormones. That's why you can walk into a room and feel tension before anyone says a word.

Alicia

So when we say protect your energy, what we really mean is creating space for your nervous system to discharge what it's absorbed and come back, calm and collected.

Nicole

All right. Let's talk about practical ways to do this.

Alicia

Number one, ground yourself. Grounding is one of the simplest ways to come back to your center. You can do this by literally putting your feet on the floor. Or on the earth taking a deep breath and imagining any tension flowing down into the ground.

Nicole

And also if you have a grounding mat, like an earthing mat, you can use that as a tool to ground yourself as well. And if you're at a busy event or family gathering, you can still do this quietly. Just feel your feet take a slow breath and imagine you're anchored. It instantly calms the body.

Alicia

Okay. Number two, use breath as an energy reset. When you exhale longer than you inhale, it signals safety to your nervous system. Try this. Inhale for four counts. Exhale for six. Do it three times and you'll feel your shoulders drop and your energy shift.

Nicole

That breathing technique is called extended exhale breathing. We've shared it before and it's such a super easy tool. The thing that I like about that technique is that you can do it anywhere. No one even has to know you're doing it. So if you're at a gathering and you're feeling overstimulated or stressed out, you can use that technique. You can do it in a meeting and nobody even has to know you're doing it. So I really like that tool. It's easy. Can use it anywhere simple and it works.

Alicia

Yep. It's one I do when I'm trying to fall asleep, um, And it is very helpful.

Nicole

Yeah, definitely. Okay. Number three, create an energy boundary before you go somewhere busy. This one might sound a little out there, but it works. Before you walk into a crowded space, take a moment to visualize a light around you. Whatever color feels good, think of it as a gentle filter that lets love and connection in, but keeps negativity or chaos out.

Alicia

I love that. And when you leave that space, imagine brushing off any energy you picked up that doesn't belong to you. It's like washing your hands, but for your nervous system.

Nicole

Right, and this next one is simple but powerful. Take sensory breaks. If you've been around bright lights, loud music, or lots of people step outside or into a quiet room for two minutes. The nervous system recalibrates so much faster than we think. It just needs intention.

Alicia

Or if you can't step away, close your eyes for a few seconds, take a slow breath and roll your shoulders. It's like hitting the reset button on your energy.

Nicole

When you get home, you can also do simple rituals to clear the energy in your space.

Alicia

Yes, like open a window, light a candle, diffuse essential oils like sage, cedarwood or frankincense, whatever helps you feel refreshed.

Nicole

Sound works beautifully too. Try soft music or Tibetan bowls. There's a reason ancient cultures used bells, drums, and chanting. They literally shift the vibration of a space.

Alicia

Another one of my favorites is a warm bath with Epsom salt or sea salt. It's physically detoxifying and energetically cleansing. You can even add a few drops of lavender or rosemary essential oil in. It's like a reset for your whole system.

Nicole

Don't underestimate the power of sleep. Sleep is your body's natural energy clearing system during deep sleep. Your brain and nervous system literally flush out metabolic waste, so rest is sacred.

Alicia

We also can't talk about protecting your peace without talking about boundaries.

Nicole

Because sometimes the best energy protection is a simple, kind, no.

Alicia

It doesn't mean you're being selfish. It means you're being selective. You can say no gracefully. You can say thank you so much for thinking of me, but I'm keeping my schedule light this week.

Nicole

Or I'd love to, but I need some downtime. You don't owe anyone a lengthy explanation.

Alicia

Exactly. Your nervous system will thank you because every, yes, that feels forced drains your energy and every, no, that's aligned replenishes it.

Nicole

And here's something that might surprise you. When you protect your peace, you give others permission to do the same. Energy is contagious and calm energy is powerful Leadership.

Alicia

So as you move through the holidays, remember, protecting your peace isn't about avoiding people or hiding out. It's about honoring your own energy so you can show up fully for the moments that matter.

Nicole

The holidays are full of beautiful chaos, and it's okay to be part of it, but it's also okay to step back when you need to breathe.

Alicia

So here's your glow reflection for this week. What drains my energy and what restores it?

Nicole

Take a moment to notice that in real time, pay attention to what feels expansive and what feels constricting. The more aware you become, the easier it is to protect your peace.

Alicia

Because at the end of the day, your calm, grounded energy is the greatest gift you can give yourself and everyone around you.

Nicole

so take a breath, shake off the stress, light that candle, and let your energy settle. You deserve to feel peaceful this season,

Alicia

Thanks for spending a few minutes of calm with us today. If you love this episode, share it with a friend who might need a reminder to recharge too.

Nicole

and we'll see you next week. Until then, protect your peace, honor your energy, and keep glowing

Alicia

Happy holidays everyone.
